Breast Cancer Charity Gun

We came up with this idea a little while ago.  My mother-in-law had just got done with chemotherapy, and we were talking about it at the shop.  Plus we’ve got our big event coming up on October 4th, and had been talking about doing some sort of charity to go along with that.

So we decided to take a Stag 15 and paint it pink, then raffle it off for Breast Cancer Research.  I took the gun back to my smith ( www.gundoctor.wordpress.com ) and told him what we were doing. He volunteered to do the Duracoating, but said that if he was going to do it, he was going to make it nice.  Turns out Joe’s family has been through this too.

This is what we’ve got so far.  The camera wasn’t very good, and the job isn’t done yet.  He still needs to touch up and clear coat. We’ll post final pictures when I put up the raffle details probably first part of next week.

We’ll be raffling off tickets at $5 each.  Anybody can enter.  The winner will be announced at the October 4th Mega Fun Shoot.  All proceeds go to charity. I’ll post up the charity details when we put up the offical raffle next week.   All federal, state, and local laws apply.  I’ll also be begging other gunbloggers to post it.

  1. I’ll be sending you some money for, probably 10, tickets. I’ve got a shop that will receive for me here in Clovis NM. Even if I don’t win, it’ll be well worth the investment.

  2. I’ll be glad to link to your raffle site, Larry. Will it be on your blog, or the shop Web site?

Also, count me in for a ticket or two.

    Good luck!

  3. Awesome. I’ll definitely buy a ticket or two as long as I can PayPal–I don’t have a car so it’s a pain for me to get down to Draper.

  4. Larry, I’ll be posting a link to this post on http://www.northeastshooters.com if you don’t mind. My only question is (since a majority of the folks on NES are located in MA) can the rifle be made AWB-compliant, since the VolksRepublik of Marxachusetts still has a federal-style assault weapon ban? (ie, if that’s an adjustable stock, it’s gotta be pinned, and if there’s a bayonet lug, it’s gotta go away, etc).

    Thanks,

    Ross

  5. Bravo! Awesome weapon, and effort!

One note: Make sure of the breast cancer charity or charities to which you give the proceeds. One of the most well-known, the Susan G. Komen Foundation (“Race for the Cure”) is a long-time contributor to Planned Parenthood, with deep ties to that organization.

Do a web search for Komen Planned Parenthood and you’ll see many well-documented links. Komen’s own website lists the grants, and PP’s site has lots of links to their affiliation. While the funds from Komen may go to PP’s breast cancer related programs, that frees up other money for them to use as they wish. PP is the largest abortion provider in the US.

  6. Are you going to do any matching magazines? It’d look a trifle odd, at least to my eye, to have a big black box sticking out the bottom of that. I’m definitely going to pick up a few tickets either way, but just curious.

  7. I’m trying to get ahold of some of the pink Magpul Pmags to go with it.

Gundoctor says that if somebody in Mass wins, he can tweak it for compliance. We’ll just have to wait and see who wins. If a Californian wins… geez, we’d just have to hold it for them until they can move to freedom or something.

  8. I’ll post a link later this evening. And I’ll buy a few tickets as well when the final details get worked out.

Wonoder if my sweetie would like that one 😉

  9. Larry, you -really- need to contact local TV stations and newspapers… Lotta pink rifles around this year – Michelle Sutton (from Hart Rifle Barrels) died last year, and some benchrester is going to end up with a very nice pink BR rifle.

  10. Count this Kalifornian in. I’ll be moving to Missouri as soon as possible so you might not have to hold it for me for long if I win it. Obviously, I can’t take delivery in the Fienstein/Boxer People’s Republic but I hope to escape soon.
Whether I can have it or not, Breast Cancer Research is a cause worth supporting.

  11. What a great idea for a great cause. I’d love to contribute and have a chance to win this. I’d keep it pink and take it to the range just as it is. It would make a great conversation peice to get people to become more aware of the need to find a cure. How do I get me some tickets?

  12. I guess we can do Paypal. I’ve got my personal Paypal account that I use to sell books, and I sure don’t have any books right now.

Gundoctor, we’ll do a press release. We just need to get the clear coat done and do up some good beauty shots.

  13. In order to PayPal, we need the email addy attached to your account, or the PP account name. Email it to me, if you are not comfortable putting it on here.

I’m in for a few tickets.

    Pops

  14. I’ll post everything, including the ticket details, paypal, all that good stuff, as soon as we get the official post ready to launch. Joe still needs to finish up the clear coat and then we’ll do some “glamour” shots. 🙂

  15. Larry, make sure to email me the info on the event (baca.strings@gmail.com). I’ll make sure to pass it on to all my brothers and sisters in Utah…

And you can count us in for a ticket or four!

  16. A friend posted this on my chat forum. We will keep it available to all of our users, and send it out to everyone we know. Thank you for doing something nice like this.

  17. It’s posted at my site as well. Problem being, I can’t freaking log-in so I can paypal. What’s up with that?
