These are going to be extremely fancy, high quality, leather, collector editions. If you scroll to the bottom I’ve got some teasers of the new interior art pieces.

They are using the French cover art (that Hard Magic cover is still my favorite cover I’ve ever had) PLUS the same artist, Vincent Chong, is doing three new full color pieces for each book (He is a fan of the series). For the really fancy super limited hand lettered few, there will be a 4th piece of artwork.

The three Grimnoir short stories that I’ve written will be included, one with each novel. There is also an interview with me and a new forward.

Vault is a relatively new company that specializes in really high end, collector editions. They’re also huge Grimnoir fans so are doing everything they can to make this as high quality as possible.

From the Vault page:
The Grimnoir Chronicles will be published in three separate volumes; Hard Magic, Spellbound, and Warbound. Each of the novels will have the following in common:

  • A new Author’s Foreword
  • An in-depth interview with author, Larry Correia
  • Cover by Vincent Chong
  • Three full-color, interior illustrations by Vincent Chong, per novel
  • Printed on 60# acid-free paper
  • Unique foil stamped design on front board and spine
  • Leatherbound
  • Smyth sewn binding for durability
  • Each novel will contain one of the three short stories set in the Grimnoir universe, making this definitive three-book set. These short-stories are the following:
    • Detroit Christmas
    • Tokyo Raider
    • Murder on the Orient Elite

And here are a couple teasers of the interior artwork to give you guys an idea of how nice these are going to be:

  1. Random business side question. Did you have to get special permission from Baen to have another publisher sell in the same market, or did you have a clause in your contract allowing limited runs like this?

  2. Look, I love the art, I really do. And I’m usually not a nitpicking jerkwad, but just this once (and because I know you insist on accuracy)….Toru’s katana is edge down. Am I wrong, or should the saya be placed so that the edge is up?

      1. In the scene depicted, he was in a hurry to get out of the embassy and didn’t have the time to properly stow his gears.

    1. Katana’s are worn both edge up and edge down depending on were the Katana was hung. In Armor the opening of the sheath was bellow belt level so the Katana was blade down to ease drawing. In the robes the sheath was held in place by the belt with the opening above belt level so it was blade up to ease drawing. So based on how he is wearing the sheath, he has it correct since I don’t think there is a defined way to carry a Kantana in a business suit

  3. Semi-random question: Are you going to have a booth with some awesome merch at GenCon? I’ll be there, mostly GMing Pathfinder up in the Sagamore Ballroom, I’ll have to sneak downstairs and swing by if you can still make it….

    1. Yes this jumped out like soar thumb. I don’t mind artistic license in cover art, but don’t like when it is completely inaccurate. Oh well, the story is still some of the best writing out there.

      1. It is still my favorite cover. And I spoke with Vincent about that decision, in that the Lewis or the BAR are still fairly normal looking in the hands of somebody that big, but the casual holding of the mini gun, though incorrect, sends the message that this dude obviously has some form of super power. Which tells you a bit about what kind of book this is, which gets the customer to pick it up long enough to read the back cover.

So not the most accurate thing, but it accomplishes the primary mission of a book cover, which is to help sell the book.

  4. Thanks for putting this on my radar. I like your Grimnoir more than the MHI, so being able to get these in leather, sewn covers is great.

  5. WHERE IS WARBOUND, VAULT!?

I paid in advance for the limited edition bundle several years ago, and I’ve never received the last book in the the series, Warbound. Seven months ago, I was told they were waiting on final approval of the print files, after which they’d start printing and shipping. Since then, nothing. Does anyone know what’s going on?

    1. Yeah, he posted an update a few days ago. There was an error on the dustcovers. Those are being redone.
