January update post

It’s almost the end of January (better late than never) but if I’m not going to interact with the fans on Facebook anymore, I need to make sure that I blog consistently to make up for it. (I am going to be curious to see how much difference not using that page makes in sales, because if it doesn’t make that much, being scared of losing sales is the main reason writers stay there).

First off, the 7 author giveaway is over and the random winners are being contacted now. (I think we beat their previous record by 4x) All of us will be shipping books to the winners. I’ve got to get with John Brown so we can both sign those copies of Gunrunner.

Speaking of Gunrunner, it is out in a couple of weeks. If you would like to get an autographed copy go here:

http://www.unclehugo.com/prod/ah-correia-larry.php

Thats right. Uncle Hugos is still in business. Their store (which has been open since the 70s) got burned down during the riots… Oh sorry. “Mostly peaceful yet fiery protests”. However, you can’t keep a good book seller down, so Don is still shipping books from his house. John and I signed a bunch of book plate stickers for him to put in the front cover. Since I’m not doing a book tour (stupid Rona) this is the ONLY place you can get an autographed copy (other than catching me somewhere later, and then you’d have to find both authors). Don also has signed copies of Destroyer of Worlds.

BOOK STUFF

The next release is Gunrunner, on February 2nd. This is a scifi action/adventure collaboration between me and John Brown, about a crew of thieves who specialize in stealing/smuggling advanced weapons to worlds who can’t have them. It came out awesome.

My next book release is August 3rd and that’s the next regular MHI series book (back to Owen’s PoV) Monster Hunter Bloodlines. This is what I’m currently working on now. It was supposed to have been finished last month, but I’ve been kinda distracted. This is the first time I’ve blown a book deadline in 12 years, but don’t worry, it doesn’t change the release date. Those get set way in advance by the publisher.

I’ll be editing two more anthologies, but I can’t announce what those are just yet (contracts are in the mail).

I have some new short stories which will be coming out in other people’s anthologies this year as well. I’ll post info and links to those as soon as they’re listed.

I am also working on another collaboration (with Steve Diamond) for a new fantasy series. I believe that will be next in line after Bloodlines, but I’ve got to talk to Toni about that, because I’ve got a few other projects also in the works.

Specifically, the next book in the Saga of the Forgotten Warrior (title to be announced) which is a 5 book series (not a trilogy like I originally pitched because after book 1, Toni took a look at my outline for the whole series and laughed at me, saying “You’ll never fit all that in 3 books” and since House of Assassins and Destroyer of Worlds were basically what I had planned for book two, she was right which is why she’s the editor).

And there is still another Grimnoir trilogy in the works which I’m trying to figure out how to squeeze in, because I really want to do that. This is the downside of having a bunch of different series going on at one time. The upside is that I never get bored and don’t phone stuff in.

People keep asking if there will be a 3rd Malcontents. Those are really good, and I really like them, but the problem there is that it isn’t my world. I don’t own it. At this point of my career time spent working in other people’s IPs is time that I’m not expanding my own. And the Malcontents are by far my least known/selling books (which is too bad, because they are really fun). So another of those is really unlikely.

Merch/Tie ins/Other Business Stuff

Jack has wrapped up the orders for the last run of coins, they’re being made now, and he’ll get them out as fast as he can. Because the next thing we’ve got planned is awesome and hilarious and you’re all going to want one. Plus it will possibly be the greatest Christmas/Birthday gift of all time. It has gravitas.

There’s a couple of other projects in the works where I’ve teamed up with other companies, but nothing I can officially announce yet. And a really cool one that is currently in negotiations (fingers crossed).

Social Media Stuff

I’ve mostly bailed on Facebook and am actively rooting for their demise. I’ll be posting these blog links, but I won’t be interacting with any fans over there anymore. I’m just tired of being randomly blocked/censored and yelled at. So please share. 😀

The emergency backup fan page was over on MeWe, which is where I’m currently at. We’ll see how that shakes out, but I’m still looking at other alternatives for interacting with the fans.

However, the very best place to keep up on all my book related stuff is to sign up for the email newsletter here:

  1. Went to MeWe as soon as I read about Facebook’s asshattery. Still trying to learn the ins & outs at MeWe, but I’m also giving Zuk the finger as soon as possible.

    1. It takes awhile to get used to, but it’s been more fun since FB started purging us and a number of us bid them “FU” – I mean “Adieu.”

  2. It takes time to unwind Facebook and establish alternate communications. I started by unsubscribing/unfollowing every group, then unfriending everyone I don’t actually know. That narrows it down.

    1. Yeah, it helps if you have alternative communication channels to let all your FB friends know where you moved to; BEFORE FB cuts you off.

  3. I bought out my local bookstore of Larry Correia books last week (except the ones I already had in paper) so I’ve done my part to keep Faust in kibble. ???? You keep writing them, I’ll keep buying them.

  4. I always scour these for updates on the next Grimnoir trilogy because I love the first one so much. I listen to it at least once a year. Faye (spelling? Downside of only listening to books) is one of my favorite characters in anything I’ve read/listened to in my life. So much fun.

Also, will there be an audio version of Gunrunner? I don’t find it on audible currently.

  5. Thank you, Larry! As always, I *REALLY* appreciate how much you write, how much excellent entertainment you provide, and how you keep us up to date. I’m looking forward to Gun Runner, and delighted that you’re planning on returning to Grimnoir.

Here’s to your continued prolific awesomeness! 😉 <3

    1. Thanks, Kat . When I searched I had it as a single word like Larry did in his post and it never occurred to me to split. My mistake. I’ve pre-ordered now!

  6. I suggest coffee mug, pint glass or stemless wine, er mountain dew glass as merch that would pique my interest.

  7. I always check this website for all my ILOH content, glad to see more focus here and none on FB. If it wasn’t for me using FB to schedule Pathfinder and Savage World games (IRL, don’t tell anyone…), I would bail on it as well.

Definitely getting a copy of Gunrunner, sounds awesome!

  8. Haha, technically it’s a bit of a spoiler, since I’m only about halfway through Destroyer of Worlds (the audiobook getting delayed threw me off, and then I had other things I was listening already before I realized it was out) but I’m happy to hear the series is getting expanded! The whole time I’ve been reading it I’ve been thinking to myself, “man, this does NOT feel like the final book of a trilogy! I feel like I’m reading a penultimate book, at least…” Glad to hear my instincts were correct! (And that we’ll be getting more Saga of the Forgotten Warrior, just in general.)

Other than that, yeah, some authors might be correct about Facebook helping their sales, but I think when you’ve got as established a fanbase as you do, the added discoverability Facebook gets you would barely make a dent.

    1. Well, you’ve said everything I wanted to say about Forgotten Warrior, so all I can say to that is: THIS!!! x 1000

      *waves hi to everyone*

And I think I completely missed the coins thing. Or was that related to the kickstarter of the game? (My son LOVED his gut-crawl coin hahahaha!)

  9. As I am currently re-listening to the Grimnoir stories, so when I read about an item with gravitas, I think a Jake Sullivan item. Not sure what, unless maybe an item (challenge coin, pin ,etc) with the Power diagram for gravity spiking. Regardless, looking forward to what is announced!

[Sad face. Very, sad face] Noooooooooooo.

  11. Looking forward to MHI: Bloodlines with bated breath. Also really curious as to what the 1950’s Grimnoir universe will look like. Odd question, but were the Coins struck from brass? Really glad you did the 2nd run.

  12. You remembered my birthday!

Gunrunner sounds like it will be the best birthday gift you’ve ever given me.

  13. Is the news letter just an alternate way to get what you’re blogging here, or does it have different content?

      1. So if I’m subscribed to this blog the mailing list wouldn’t include anything I’m not already seeing then. Thanks.

  14. The fact that you choose to interact with your fans and keep looking for ways to do that really sets you apart. You are entertaining in print and in person (and online, of course). I have a personal acquaintance with other writers in the field.
The public and private disdain they have for fans makes me shake my head.

As always, I’m looking forward to your new releases… it’s going to be a great year!

  15. I’ve been on MeWe since 2018. It’s different than FacistBook, but like learning anything you get used to it. As the numbers of people go up, it will get better.

  16. I’m glad the Forgotten Warrior is getting 2 more books. Such a great series.

Also Larry, any news on movie or TV projects? If not, have you thought about reaching out to the Daily Wire? They’re branching out into entertainment and it seems like your stuff is exactly what they are trying to do.

  17. Larry,

Your personal blog is a great step. I don’t buy on Amazon (ever), please look at smashwords.com? Or some other indie solution. For interaction, MeWe has already started to cave on censorship. Please take another look at the Fediverse (Mastodon, Pleroma, etc.). Thanks!

(Oh, and mailchimp is not your friend, just another censorship bomb ticking away.)

  18. I’m on MeWe too. Love that it’s become a fairly active place. Haven’t touched FB in a couple of weeks. I just quit cold-turkey. It took some getting used to at first, but now I’m glad I did it.

  19. I avoid facebook like the plague, and I’m less likely to buy from an author who only posts there. I doubt I’m the only one.

  20. Good continuing luck on the censorship front. MeWe has announced that they’re NOT an “anything goes” site and are actively banning “Stop the Steal” groups and their members.

Mailchimp is also banning right wing causes.

I recommend CloutHub as a Facebook replacement. It bans swearing but not any kind of politics.

    1. That’s been disproven, though.
MeWe never claimed to be “anything goes”- that would be just asking for lawsuits. They have loose wording in their ToS that covers their butts, but they don’t actually do much in the way of enforcement. The Stop the Steal groups are still very much active- one of them shut themselves down temporarily to clear out some who were there in bad faith, but they’ve since reopened it. On MailChimp, they’re not necessarily ‘banning right wing causes’ but we are still working on an alternative now.

  21. Thanks for all your hard Work Larry. Sad to hear a 3rd Malcontents is unlikely, its also completely understandable. . Glad to year Saga of the Forgotten Warrior is going to be five books. Amazon still thinks its a 3 books series https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Saga of the Forgotten Warrior&i=stripbooks&ref=nb_sb_noss
Keep doing your best and we are behind you

  22. Larry,

Have you sent out the email newsletter yet or recently? I know I signed up for it several months ago when you said you were going to start one. I found this post and the others through MeWe and older ones through FB. Just wanting to make sure I don’t need to go re-sign up because I wasn’t getting them.

    1. You’re in the system- I checked and they’re being sent to you, but you only opened the first one back on Oct 12th. There have been 2 more since then- one on Oct 27th and one on Jan 18th
You might want to check your spam folder?

  23. Sales info can be shared in your FB group even if you don’t get to do it yourself. I’m sure there will be so many posts about your stuff the mods will have to declare them PUFF exempt. hehe

I’m holding out on buying the autographed Destroyer of Worlds, hoping you’ll be able to do signings again sometime soon. And then also hoping you’ll do Mysterious Galaxy or some other great place in Southern California. I need to keep up with my set since I have the first two hardcovers of that series autographed.

Looking forward to all your stuff as usual. So glad you like to stay busy.

  24. i hope your blog will include your rants and bits of wisdom as so much of what you say makes so much sense. have not read any of your books – not really a fantasy fan but my son enjoys them.

    1. I was actually planning on kickstarting that in 2020, but then the whole year was an total shit show and it got back burnered. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it right now.

      1. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to Kickstarter it, or Indiegogo, or many other funding platforms, because merest concept of “cop” and the campaign will get cancelled by a rampaging mob.

You’ll need an uncancellable funding platform that isn’t at risk of getting its merchant services account cancelled when Visa and Mastercard knuckle under.

  25. Ok, fine, I signed up for your newsletter.
It’s not like it’s going to get me to buy more of your books though. I already buy them all. Some of them I even have time to read ????

Suggestions as to other authors I should support are always appreciated. Especially ones that tweak the left when they do well.

  26. 1) The MeWe Thing: AIUI, they are using Amazon software of some sort to run the place; I’m worried about “second-order leaning-on” — De’Gub leans on Amazon; Amazon leans on MeWe; MeWe starts leaning on the users.

    2) Is Uncle Hugo’s in need of books to sell? I have an accumulation of SF/F.

    1. I put out an update on those in December. Vault had a deposit down for the production of #2 and #3 and a place in line, but then that supplier got shut down for Corona Virus, and didn’t survive the year. They went out of business but kept Vault’s deposit too. So Vault had to find a new supplier and get in line. Basically they got totally screwed and the project is a loser for them no matter what, however, they’re still working on it and plan on getting the last two out as soon as they can.

      1. Thanks for that. Some somehow I missed your update. I wonder (not your problem I understand) if Vault plans on contacting everyone who has purchased all three books to keep them updated? If the monitor these comments, it certainly would be appreciated.

      2. Thanks. I saw the update in December but didn’t know about the deposit. That really sucks for them. I was just hoping that there was an estimated date. I plan on moving, I have my fingers crossed that they get done before I do. Thanks again.

        1. If you’re moving, shoot them an email when your address changes. They’re taking a bath on this because they WANT everyone who supported them to get what they paid for, even if they have to reach into their own pocket to do it. Good dudes.

  27. I’m glad you’ll be blogging more often. I kinda miss the blogosphere heydays.

I got in on the 2020 Dumpster Fire challenge coins this time. I missed the first run.

I also made sure to order Gunrunner from Uncle Hugo’s. I hope they can get fully back on their feet soon.

  28. Currently on Destroyer of Worlds. Love it. Can’t wait to see you on tour again, so I can get caught up on your autographs.

Also just sent out messages to everyone on my FB page that I actually know AND care about letting them know I’m about to leave that cesspit. It already feels good.

  29. “… not a trilogy like I originally pitched because after book 1, Toni took a look at my outline for the whole series and laughed at me, saying “You’ll never fit all that in 3 books” and since House of Assassins and Destroyer of Worlds were basically what I had planned for book two, she was right …”

    Welcome to my world.

As of last count, I have one two-book story that inflated into a trilogy, one trilogy that inflated into six volumes, one four-book series that inflated into a projected twelve volumes, and at least one project I mean to keep writing until they beat the pen out of my withered claw with a long stick, and crowbar me into the grave.

Like you, I have not blown a deadline until 2020. It was surely a year when the stars were lined up in a malign conjunction, and the unquiet and non-Euclidian city of R’Lyeh shivered on the sunless ocean bottoms, and began a slow ascent.

    1. I think Piers Anthony has got y’all beat. Over 40 books in the Xanth Trilogy. So far. 😛

And, I’m not sure Cthulhu would be worse than the Democrats. 😮

  30. Larry,

Thanks for the update. I haven’t done FB in years, so your blog is my go-to for info. Looking forward to all the books coming out.
It’s funny, when I got to the end of Destroyer of Worlds and realized it was going to be more than 3 I did the fist-pump in the air thing (which probably worried some folks, since I was listening to the audiobook at the time). Good times.
One question – do you have any update on the Vault Books editions of the Grimnoir series? I have the first one, and it turned out great! Pre-ordered the trilogy and there’s been no update in some time on the Vault website.
    Thanks!

    1. Like 9 comments up he answered that:
“I put out an update on those in December. 31. I didn’t know there are going to be more Grimnoir books and it is fantastic news to me. I love all your books but that trilogy is definitely my favourite. Awesome world and truly incredible characters and the audiobook narration and voicing is amazing. Can’t wait for more; looking forward to your updates.

  32. 5 book series!?!? Oh course, the more books the better, I always say. But I swear, if I have to wait until book 5 to see Omand Vokkan’s head on a platter, I will take offense.
